EDUCATION UNIT 9
DERMATOLOGY IN THE COMMUNITY: FUNDAMENTALS OF SKIN CARE

COURSE INFORMATION

Only the introductory distance learning component of this education unit is now available. It provides key underpinning knowledge that is relevant to the care of all patients with skin disorders. It is designed for nurses working in the community.

Originally the distance learning was developed for nurses and pharmacists and was available via the Crookes Healthcare website. Crookes Healthcare now no longer exists but in response to requests for the distance learning from nurses, we are making the PDFs of the distance learning available for downloading from the Masterclass website. At the end of each part of the distance learning you'll see links which originally took students to the Crrookes website in order access the next part of the distance learning. Ignore these links (they don't work anyway) and download the PDFs at the bottom of this page.

The self-directed distance learning is in three parts - A, B and C. Content includes anatomy and physiology of normal skin; skin changes in common skin conditions; possible impact of skin disorders on patients and/or carers; roles of nurses and pharmacists in promoting skin health; key issues to consider when making prescribing decisions and when advising patients; modes of action of a range of skin care preparations; principles of using skin care medication; problem of skin sensitisers and irritants. About 25 hours of study are required to complete Parts A, B and C.

Participants can use the study for their continuing professional development.
