CARE OF PEOPLE WITH HIV INFECTION: ANTIRETROVIRAL SIDE EFFECTS
COURSE INFORMATION
This education unit has been developed for nurses, pharmacists and dietitians working with adults who have HIV infection.
This education unit currently has two stages.

Stage 1 distance learning CDROM includes general antiretroviral side effects that may be experienced by people with HIV infection;
pathophysiological changes and possible psychosocial and clinical consequences associated with the following long-term antiretroviral side effects:
lipodystrophy syndrome, hepatotoxicity, peripheral neuropathy, lactic acidaemia and lactic acidosis, and bone disorders; brief overview of the range
of interventions required to manage treatment side effects of antiretroviral drugs.
It requires about 15 hours of study.
Stage 2 - locally delivered workshop that involves watching and discussing interviews with patients who have experience of antiretroviral side effects. The workshop lasts about two hours and there is a follow-up activity lasting about an hour.
