Masterclass plus is an innovative approach to professional lifelong learning,
helping nurses, midwives, health visitors and other health care professionals
to meet their PREP/CPD requirements and have the opportunity to
obtain university credits without the need to attend a university.
In addition the shared learning activities can be delivered
directly to you at your place of work.
Masterclass plus education units are flexibly designed,
making it possible for you to fit your learning into your own
timetable and lifestyle. Most units are in three stages:
Masterclass plus is a truly flexible way to learn. The shared learning activities can be
delivered directly to you at your place of work. Stages 1 and 2 are completely
free of charge (subject to conditions) and may normally be studied as stand-alone
learning experiences. You can choose how many stages you study
and you work in your own time and at your own pace. The more hours you study,
the more hours you can accumulate for the purposes of PREP/CPD. Complete
Stage 1 for example and earn 10 or more PREP/CPD hours. Complete Stages
1 and 2 and you could gain well over 15 PREP/CPD hours. If you then
decide to register and complete Stage 3 you could gain from 15 to
30 credits towards a degree or diploma depending on the work undertaken.
In addition, if you are a nurse, midwife or health visitor, completion of all stages will more than fulfil your
PREP requirements for three years.
Not all education units follow this pattern. With some units, for example,
instead of a shared learning session there's a larger distance learning component
that's delivered in several sections or parts. When participants have completed
all the parts they have the option of studying the on-line learning activities
and assessment for credits.
Each Masterclass plus education unit provides opportunities for personal study and
in many units there's an opportunity to attend a shared learning session (subject to availability) where you
can meet and discuss issues with your peers. This shared session
is brought to you at your place of work, at a time that you and
your colleagues choose. There's also The Forum - a live bulletin
board which is a good way to obtain further information and discuss
course matters with other students.
The higher education credits gained for successful completion of Masterclass education units
are at levels 2 or 3. To set this in context you need to remember
that academic certificates, diplomas and degrees require the accumulation
of different numbers of credits at different levels:
If you qualified before 1992 as a nurse (SRN), midwife or health visitor youre
likely to find that your professional qualification will gain you
120 credits at level 1. In order to gain a diploma you need to accumulate
120 credits at level 2 and thats where Masterclass can help.
You can also accumulate credits by studying courses and modules at higher education
institutions. Keep an eye on the Masterclass website because we
will be providing details of other programmes of study which complement
Masterclass education units and can help you to work towards a diploma
or a degree.
If you're a nurse, midwife, health visitor or other health care worker residing outside
the United Kingdom (UK) Masterclass plus will not be available to you.
