This education unit is designed to enable nurses and other health care professionals acquire the knowledge and skills to place and manage PICCs safely and effectively.



EDUCATION UNIT 8
TACKLING OBESITY: IMPROVING HEALTH
15 CREDITS AT LEVEL 2

This education unit aims to help primary health care professionals (e.g. practice nurses, midwives, health visitors, community nurses and occupational health nurses) contribute to the effective management of adult obesity in their areas of practice.

EDUCATION UNIT 9
DERMATOLOGY IN THE COMMUNITY: FUNDAMENTALS OF SKIN CARE
15 CREDITS AT LEVEL 3

This education unit provides key underpinning knowledge that is relevant to the care of all patients with skin disorders. In order to study this education unit you need to be a nurse or pharmacist working in the community who is a qualified prescriber (independent and/or supplementary) OR who is likely to become a prescriber in the near future.



EDUCATION UNIT 10
DERMATOLOGY IN THE COMMUNITY: MANAGING ECZEMA

This education unit is designed to help nurses and pharmacists working in the community to manage eczema effectively in their areas of practice.



EDUCATION UNIT 11
HEPATITIS C: IMPROVING CARE PATHWAYS
30 CREDITS AT LEVEL 3

This education unit has been developed for experienced nurses working in secondary care in relevant areas of practice: for example, infectious diseases, gastroenterology, hepatology.

EDUCATION UNIT 12
THE HEPATITIS C VIRUS: TACKLING THE PROBLEM
30 CREDITS AT LEVEL 2

This education unit has been developed for qualified nurses and midwives in secondary and primary care who are currently seeing or in contact with hepatitis C patients. The content of the unit provides fundamental knowledge in the area of hepatitis C care and is suitable for nurses and midwives working in a wide range of clinical settings.

EDUCATION UNIT 13
COMPRESSION THERAPY: THEORY AND PRACTICE
15 CREDITS AT LEVEL 3

This education unit has been developed for qualified nurses who have a role in preventing and/or managing venous leg ulcers in primary or secondary care. It aims to help nurses develop the knowledge and skills required to use compression therapy safely and effectively.

HEPATITIS B INFECTION: MEETING THE CHALLENGE
15 CREDITS AT LEVEL 3

This education unit aims to enable participants to develop their understanding of hepatitis B infection and how they can contribute to its prevention, early diagnosis and effective management. The unit has been developed for health or social care professionals involved with hepatitis B patients/clients.

HEPATITIS C: MANAGING PATIENTS WITH ADDICTIVE BEHAVIOURS
30 CREDITS AT LEVEL 3

This education unit has been developed for health or social care professionals involved with hepatitis C patients/clients. It aims to help these professionals understand the management of adults with addictive behaviours who are at risk of hepatitis C infection or who have the infection.



EDUCATION UNIT 16
HEPATITIS C: MANAGING PATIENTS WITH CO-MORBIDITIES
30 CREDITS AT LEVEL 3

This education unit has been developed for health or social care professionals involved with hepatitis C patients/clients. It aims to help these professionals understand the management of adults who are at risk of hepatitis C infection or who have the infection, and who also have one or more co-morbidities.



EDUCATION UNIT 17
LEGAL, ETHICAL AND PROFESSIONAL ISSUES
30 CREDITS AT LEVEL 3

This education unit has been developed for health or social care professionals involved with hepatitis C patients/clients. It aims to help these professionals understand legal, ethical and professional issues involved in the management of adults who are at risk of hepatitis C infection or who have the infection.



EDUCATION UNIT 18
PROMOTING URINARY CONTINENCE: IMPROVING PRACTICE

This education unit has been developed for nurses working in hospitals or the community. It provides fundamental knowledge about types of urinary incontinence and how nurses can work with adult patients and/or carers to promote urinary continence. The unit is in two stages and participants can use the study hours to meet PREP requirements.



EDUCATION UNIT 19
INVASIVE FUNGAL INFECTIONS
15 CREDITS AT LEVEL 3

This education unit is being developed for registered nurses whose work involves caring for patients at risk of systemic fungal infections. It will focus on the serious nature of these infections and on their prevention, recognition and management.



EDUCATION UNIT 20
CARE OF PEOPLE WITH HIV INFECTION: ANTIRETROVIRAL THERAPY
30 CREDITS AT LEVEL 3

This education unit has been developed for registered nurses who are working in secondary care with patients receiving anti-retroviral drugs for the treatment of HIV infection.



EDUCATION UNIT 21
LEG HEALTH: DELIVERING QUALITY COMMUNITY CARE

This education unit has been developed for nurses working in the community. It aims to help them reflect on how they can contribute to the provision of a high quality leg care service. The unit emphasises the importance of an holistic approach to innovative care delivery.



EDUCATION UNIT 22
TUBERCULOSIS: TURNING THE TIDE
15 CREDITS AT LEVEL 3

This education unit has been developed for nurses working in primary or secondary care. Content will include epidemiology, pathology, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of TB.



EDUCATION UNIT 23
ANTIPSYCHOTICS: MEDICATION MANAGEMENT IN CLINICAL PRACTICE
30 CREDITS AT LEVEL 3

This education unit has been developed for mental health workers in secondary care e.g. mental health nurses, social workers and occupational therapists. It aims to help them work with and support individuals receiving antipsychotic medication, as well as their carers and families. Content includes psychopharmacology, concordance and important issues related to antipsychotic medication in the management of people with schizophrenia.



EDUCATION UNIT 24
CARE OF PEOPLE WITH HIV INFECTION: ANTIRETROVIRAL SIDE EFFECTS

This education unit has been developed for nurses, pharmacists and dietitians working with adults who have HIV infection. It aims to help participants develop the knowledge and understanding to work with patients, managing side effects appropriately and so improving treatment adherence.



EDUCATION UNIT 25
PREVENTING DEEP VEIN THROMBOSIS: SAVING LIVES

This education unit is being developed for all nurses and midwives working in secondary care, except those caring for neonates. It will enable participants to develop knowledge and understanding of deep vein thrombosis and its prevention.



EDUCATION UNIT 27
NUTRITION SUPPORT IN THE COMMUNITY

This education unit has been developed for all nurses working in the community e.g. in nursing homes or as district nurses or practice nurses. It focuses on malnutrition in adults and how this may be prevented or treated by nutrition support and, in particular, oral nutrition support.



EDUCATION UNIT 28
CARING FOR CHILDREN WITH HIV INFECTION

This education unit has been developed for all nurses caring for children with HIV infection. It includes psychosocial, cultural and religious issues, support services, antiretroviral therapy, adherence support and disclosure.

This education unit is designed to help participants provide effective care for women at the menopause and beyond. It focuses on the knowledge and skills that nurses need in order to provide women with clear and accurate information about their choices for health.

FAMILY PLANNING METHODS : EXPLORING THE OPTIONS
15 CREDITS AT LEVEL 2

This education unit examines a range of family planning methods and is designed to enable participants to develop their knowledge and skills so that they can help patients and clients make informed choices.

INTRAVENOUS CANNULATION: TAKING CARE
15 CREDITS AT LEVEL 3

This education unit is designed to enable nurses, midwives and other health care workers to acquire the knowledge and skills to perform peripheral intravenous cannulation safely and effectively.
